Time…..what a strange thing it can be

For some, like us busy businesspersons, there is never enough of it. For others, for whatever reason, it is something fluid … maybe delineated by medical appointments and alarms set as reminders to do things.

At Time Gained CIC we are in the business of giving back “work-life balance” to anyone we meet. With our clients we do this by taking personal and professional tasks off of their to do lists (which we enjoy immensely). But as a Community Interest Company we do so much more.

Meet Zachary (whose identity we have hidden for obvious reasons). Despite being a highly intelligent individual, the combination of his Autism and ADHD meant that he was never really able to think about employment. Before coming to us, his main complaint was boredom and loneliness.

Joining Time Gained CIC as a trainee, gave him the opportunity to interact with others on a daily basis and to really think about what work would be best suited to him.

Although we soon discovered that Administrative work was not his forte (his concentration spans were too short) over the course of the three months he was with us, we discovered through supervisory sessions, that his passion had always been languages. As a self-taught Spanish and Arabic speaker we started to think about ways in which his ADHD would not affect any career choice he made.

Zachary is no longer lost. Though perhaps still a little lonely, something I am sure that is likely to change in the next few weeks, he is about to start a Masters in Translation as we realised he was able to sit for a good few hours when working on language. We are so proud of him for having the courage to return to university and discovering the joy of “work-life balance” in his life.

We are about to pilot our first training programme aimed at unemployed parents who feel intimidated by technology. If you know anyone that fits that description who lives a bus ride away from Reading (Berkshire), please point them in our direction.

And if you know anyone who is constantly overwhelmed by the number of tasks on their to-do lists (whether personal – for e.g. arranging flowers for their mother, or professional – for e.g. researching a topic for their next post), do introduce us to them.
