In today’s testing times for businesses and charities alike one young man from Nottingham is helping make a big difference to one of Sterling Networks Charity members.
At just 10 years old Ben has found a unique way to earn money while giving back to the wider community.
It all started when Ben went with his parents to his grandma’s grave and disturbed by the dirt and moss that covered it took it upon himself to give it a thorough clean. While a deeply personal moment it also sparked an idea that others would feel equally as pleased having their loved ones lasting tributes looking fresh and new, so Ben’s business Guardians of the Headstones was born.
Armed with spray bottles, soft brushes and a cleaning solution that is used to keep the White House gleaming Ben spends his weekends fulfilling his now never-ending stream of bookings around his local cemetery’s offering services from a basic tidy to (thanks to the training of a Nottingham stonemasons) a full re-lettering service.
Ben charges an incredibly reasonable fee for his services starting at just £10 but what makes Bens journey even more touching is his idea to donate 10% of everything he earns to the charity Stevie Stones. Stevie Stones charity was set up by a Worcestershire couple Barri and Naomi Graham after the sudden passing of their daughter Stevie back in 2021 and aims to help provide headstones and memorials for bereaved parents. With roughly 4000 children passing away a year in Britain, Stevie Stones services have never been in more demand.
Ben’s generosity quickly gained some attention in the local press leading to several television and radio appearances, but Bens Mum says ‘’he takes it all in his stride and isn’t phased by it at all’’
In a time very much focused on helping oneself Ben is quietly leading by example showing you can make the biggest difference at any age.
