Sarah runs the London Marathon

Just over 9 years ago I tried for the first time to enter the London Marathon and got a place (to say I was shocked and just a little bit daunted would be an understatement!!) so this year when Leonard Cheshire Disability offered me a place to run for them, I knew what to expect, turns out 9 years is long enough for the memory of the pain to fade!!

I was pleased with my training and up until a few days before I was feeling quietly confident – but then I got food poisoning on the Wednesday before the race, so all thoughts of beating my time from 9 years ago were forgotten and it became about just getting round.  The first 15 miles were OK but the last 11.2 felt like someone had moved the decimal point one place to the right.

I think I will be sticking to half marathons as my maximum distance from now on.

Leonard Cheshire Disability were really great to run for very supportive and they arranged a big feast and a massage at the end of the race which was very welcome.  The support from the crowds on the day was fantastic even better than I remembered. I would like to thank my Sterling friends and colleagues who have helped me to raise just over £800 so far for this brilliant charity.  My page is still open, I am hoping to raise a total of £2,000 so if you haven’t already sponsored me and would like to you can click on the link here sarah cook is fundraising for Leonard Cheshire Disability (justgiving.com)

And I promise I won’t ever ask you sponsor me for a marathon ever again!!
