The Royal National College for the Blind has launched an exciting crowd funding initiative called Light Up – in conjunction with Sports England – to raise funds to replace the lighting in our Sports Hall with eco-friendly LED lighting. Not only will this save an impressive 30 tonnes of CO2 per year, permanently reducing our carbon footprint, but it will deliver important financial savings. This will support the charity’s long-term sustainability and ultimately our core mission: the education, employment and empowerment of visually impaired or blind young people from across the UK.

RNC’s Sports Hall is part of our nationally renowned tP4 sports facilities in Venn’s Lane, Hereford. The hall and an outside astropitch are used on a daily basis by RNC’s Sports Academy which trains teams in Blind Football, Partially Sighted Football and Goalball as well as supporting the fitness of any students who wish to attain fitness goals… we also have elite student athletes on paralympian training pathways. Additionally, the Hall is used by many community groups from across Herefordshire and beyond, so efficient new lighting across the Hall will benefit over 30,000 users pa.

It’s easy to donate by clicking on the link below and we welcome contributions from individuals and businesses alike … eagle eyed Sterling business members will see that there are some great advertising opportunities available if supporting at a certain level, both within the hall itself and around the edge of our astropitch.

The Light Up! campaign is live from this Friday, 7 October on social media and runs throughout October into the first week of November.
