Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust Receives Prestigious High Sheriff of Worcestershire Award at Summer Garden Get Together
Grace Kelly Childhood Cancer Trust (GKCCT) held a special Summer Garden Get Together where the charity was presented with an award from Andrew Manning-Cox, The High Sheriff of Worcestershire, in recognition of great and valuable services to the community.
Members of the team were also presented with awards for going the extra mile during the pandemic. Huge congratulations to Dr Jen Kelly our CEO and founder, Emma Williams our charity operations and fundraising manager and Sarah Tarry our family support worker for Worcestershire & Herefordshire.
The charity’s chair, Victoria Billings and David Lane who owns the farm where their offices are based also received the coveted lapel badges for their tremendous support of the charity.
The charity was set up in memory of Grace Kelly who passed away from a rare form of cancer at just 4 years of age. As the inspiration behind all the charity does and their achievements, she received a special badge which her mother and founder, Dr. Jen Kelly, accepted on her behalf.
Many supporters from across the local business community, including members from Sterling, as well as families the charity supports, enjoyed the afternoon where the Pimm’s was flowing, and special lady bird cakes were served in celebration.
SW&A Accountants were part of the proceedings as they presented a cheque for £1,515.93 raised from their Summer Festival.
The charity is so grateful to all joined them for the afternoon and wish to thank The Marquee Company of Worcestershire, Create Your Dream Event for their beautiful balloon arch and Angie Tune from Tesco Warndon for supporting the refreshments.
Anja Potze Fine Jewellery, West Midland Safari Park, Severn Valley Railway, The Twisted Spoon and Upton Snodsbury Post Office kindly supported the raffle.
Coralie Hudson, Fundraiser at GKCCT, said: “We were truly honoured to receive such a prestigious award from Andrew. What a privilege it is to be recognised for the vital work we do helping families affected by childhood cancer over the six years we have been operating.
“With September being Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, the award will also help us highlight the importance of parents and cares being aware of the signs and symptoms. It is a time when organisations, care givers, medics and many others come together internationally to raise awareness of childhood cancer.”
“Latest statistics in the UK have shown that 1 child in every 450 will sadly develop cancer before their 15th birthday. This is why it is so vital that we continue to fight for these children and ensure the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer are shared as wide as possible”
The Trust funds research in to rare and aggressive childhood cancers, educates families and clinicians about the signs and symptoms of childhood cancer and produces medical information booklets to explain to parents and children about the treatments they are facing.
The charity also provides financial, practical, and emotional support to local families through their family support service, giving families a listening ear and support at the time when they need it most.
